Trump is Using the Birthright Citizenship Case to Get the Supreme Court to Stop Federal Judges From Blocking His Agenda Nationwide

We begin with today’s Supreme Court’s oral arguments on birthright citizenship which turned out to be all about Trump’s effort to stop federal judges from blocking his aggressive and often illegal agenda with nationwide injunctions. Joining us to discuss  how little was discussed about birthright citizenship and how much the focus was on whether a single federal judge can block Trump’s policies across the country is Alan Morrison, Associate Dean for Public Interest & Public Service and a Professor of Law at George Washington University Law School where he teaches civil procedure and constitutional law. He has argued 20 cases in the U.S. Supreme Court and previously worked for the Public Citizen Litigation Group, which he co-founded with Ralph Nader in 1972 and directed for over 25 years.

The History of Birthright Citizenship Which Has been Settled Law Since 1898

Then we examine the history of birthright citizenship as settled law since 1898 and speak with Gabriel Chin, a Professor of Law at the UC Davis School of Law where he teaches Immigration Law, Criminal Procedure, and Race and Law. The U.S. Supreme Court cited his work on collateral consequences of criminal conviction and his efforts with students to repeal Jim Crow laws still on the books including a successful 2003 petition to the Ohio legislature to ratify the Fourteenth Amendment, 136 years after the state disapproved it during the ratification process.

Then finally, with Trump yet again giving Putin a pass after siding with him to get out from under sanctions from the Europeans by Putin promising peace talks in Turkey for which Putin did not show up, we look into how Russia’s “girlfriend” Tulsi Gabbard is neutering the American Intelligence community to make America blind, deaf and dumb when it comes to having a president who deals with facts and what is happening in the real world. Joining us is Gregory Treverton, a senior adviser with the Transnational Threats Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and a professor of the practice of international relations at the University of Southern California. He has served in government for the first Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, handling Europe for the National Security Council, and was chairman of the National Intelligence Council from 2014 to 2017. His books include Dividing Divided States, Beyond the Great Divide: Relevance and Uncertainty in National Intelligence and Science for Policy.
